Carers Rights Day: How TALKWORKS can help carers

Posted by Victoria Walmesley on 20 November, 2024

Carers Rights Day is taking place on Thursday 21 November. Each year, the event helps carers across the country recognise and understand their rights and how they can access support. According to Carers UK, every day 12,000 people become unpaid carers for a partner, family member or a friend. Many of these people don’t see themselves as carers and are often not aware of the support options and benefits available to them in their caring role.

TALKWORKS can offer a range of treatment options to carers who may be struggling with increased stress, anxiety or sleep difficulties as a result of their caring duties. Our service is open to adults (age 18+), living in Devon (outside Plymouth which is covered by Plymouth Options). All of our support for carers is free to access and includes:

  • One-to-one sessions with a therapist (available face-to-face, over the phone or by video call)
  • Interactive group courses
  • Wellbeing workshops
  • Online self-help (accessible 24/7)

You can refer yourself to our service without needing to see a GP by completing our online self-referral form, or by calling the team on 0300 555 3344 (our phone lines are open Monday to Friday from 9am – 4:45pm). Please be aware that TALKWORKS is not a crisis or urgent care service. If you, or someone you care for, is in need of urgent mental health support, please call 111 and select the NHS mental health option.
